Going back to publishing on my own.
The web is broken. Every day we stray further from what the web should be. Trigger alert: Rambling old man.

The media we consume today—the videos we watch, the information we read—is part of the #corporate-web. Information silos guarded by big tech. Everything is pay-walled, freemium, interactive, animated, and monetized.
You can’t get information by searching anymore. Everything is a YouTube video. “Please watch this animated intro” and please don’t skip this “word from our sponsor” to get information that could have been a paste on pastebin. Please accept these cookies and subscribe to this newsletter. Here’s a code for 20% off what you don’t need.
And we’re all at fault. All of us. Slaves to the corporations, constantly seeking instant gratification with ever-diminishing patience.
But we can change. I can. Just as I removed my Facebook account and everything connected to it, just as I decreased my reliance on Google, I can do my part. This blog was always a WordPress blog, so it kind of always was part of the #IndieWeb—something I only recently learned about, but that resonated deeply with me.
Yes, I’m Geocities.com old. And, admittedly, I miss the web of old.
The last post on my blog was in 2018. Since then, through work, I’ve shared posts on Medium.com. For work only, but still my writing. I saw people moving to Substack or sharing tiny bits on LinkedIn. I’m not moving to Substack, and I doubt people would pay for my writing. This is really just me making sure that what I write will be accessible regardless of anyone’s money or subscription status.
You don’t need an account to access this website, and I’ll make sure that whatever I write will be accessible here first, and only then crossposted.
And of course I enjoyed the tech challenge—moving away from WordPress, building with Hugo, deploying with GitHub Actions. Writing posts in Markdown is… fun. :D
Not that anyone cares, of course. Well, I do. And if you read this: Join the #IndieWeb!
